I've been under the impression for some time that separated paths alone can't address all the issues "interested but concerned" people have about getting on a bike--and that, because separate facilities are the most expensive possible way to encourage cycling, they become, almost by default, a political excuse not to pursue any other measures.

More studies and articles like this one can only help pry people's minds open on the subject.
