When government does things that are slightly awesome

 Ray LaHood:
"Today, I want to announce a sea change. People across America who value bicycling should have a voice when it comes to transportation planning. This is the end of favoring motorized transportation at the expense of non-motorized.

We are integrating the needs of bicyclists in federally-funded road projects. We are discouraging transportation investments that negatively affect cyclists and pedestrians. And we are encouraging investments that go beyond the minimum requirements and provide facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians of all ages and abilities."

Wow.

OMG IT'S LIKE WE ELECTED LIBERALS!

Wherever the Democrats were hiding their chutzpah, they seem to have found it, this week. Exciting times we live in.

That was an exciting moment in the coverage of the Bike Summit in DC that I was following via Twitter and BikePortland a few weeks ago.

Apparently LaHood climbed up onto a table to deliver what was a fairly impromptu short speech to the summit participants. The "sea change" speech came the next day.

LaHood's official blog, Welcome to the Fast Lane, is worth subscribing to, too.
