Bikellany.

There's a piece in the NYT's Style section this morning about a bike shop aimed mostly at women, in New York; it's mostly "urban" style bikes, looking at their web site. Nice to see so many step-through frames on one web site, though!

Looks like a nice shop. I hope, however, that we don't see the glamorization of bike-riding to the exclusion of regular folks.

I suppose in TriBeCa, that's a given already.

Opening a for-women bike shop is one of my current fantasies. Not a fashionable one, though. Or, not an exclusively fashionable one. Just a place where women can get fitted properly and have someone who knows about bikes and fit help them buy a bike, whether they want a pretty cruiser for city cycle-chic riding or a SRS MTB for taking out to the hills and trails and pretending we live someplace with mountains or a speedy speed bike with speeds. Just someplace with all sorts of different women's frames (and a few unisex ones, too), and a good variety of riding gear, including stuff for short people.

If I ever get capital, ...

The featured shop has a huge footprint for a downtown bike shop, though! Wow. I'd be bankrupt in 6 months with a square footage like that in downtown Toronto. I am envious.
