darkemeraldsOkay, it's not Sharknado, but it is a bigger helicopter. It's a bike-icopter. It's a helicycle!
Quoting from the article at This Is Colossal: "The Igor I. Sikorsky Human Powered Helicopter Competition was established in 1980... To win the prize a team of engineers would have to build a helicopter powered solely by a human that would achieve a flight duration of 60 seconds, reach an altitude of 3 meters (9.8 ft), while remaining in a 10 meter (32.8 ft) square."
It took 33 years, but a team from the University of Toronto finally did it. Go, Canada!

Jun. 9th, 2011 01:43 pmilanaramaApparently the NYPD has been cracking down on cyclists for not riding in the bike lane, issuing tickets for as much as $130. A guy was stopped and tried to tell the cop that sometimes the bike lane isn't safe, but the officer still ticketed him. So he made a video showing what happens when you ride in the bike lane ALL THE TIME. Warning for OW OW OMG OW.

Bike jousting

bicycles members! This comm has been mighty quiet lately, so here is a fantastic piece of bike-filmmaking as a music video:
The film is by Daniel Garcia and was shot here in my little town of bike madness, Portland, Oregon. The song is "Drunk Girls Holy Ghost Remix" by LCD Soundsystem. I was pretty impressed.
And apparently, tall-bike jousting is an actual thing.
