Hah! I had a MONTH like that! Both tires, a total of nine flats, various causes. I learned to change my own inner tubes, and I learned that I don't wanna.

Knowing how is good, but it's fantastic to have the option of not having to.

Yeah, there's a lot to be said for living four or five blocks uphill from a bike shop. Although for whatever reason the shop nearest me doesn't always keep the 20" tubes I need for the tandem in-stock...and they're also the shop that's closest to the manufacturer that makes the bikes that take the 20" tubes.

Sounds like a reasonably good situation, all in all.

I'm downhill from just about everything, it seems like. You don't notice the relative elevations of everything till you start riding a bike--and apparently, I live in kind of a hole!

Hmrrrg. Living in a hole, not my favorite thing.

We don't, but there's a fairly major Topographical Annoyance north of us called the Alameda Ridge, and finding a gouge in it is sort of my roommate's white whale. (No dice yet. Google Bike Maps claimed the best option was up 18th and east across Mason just north of the Sabin School, but I tried that and it's bollocks; not nearly as good as just taking 12th or 9th straight.)

Yeah, that damn thing is the main reason I don't shop more often at Whole Foods on 33rd and Killingsworth. Fun coming home with the groceries, though!

Hahahaha, yesssssssssss. Especially if you're coming down 15th or some other major meridian and can catch most of the signals green.

I dunno if you're north or south of it, but there's a different Whole Foods at 15th and Fremont that might be a better saddle-point for that flatter-vs.-nearer optimization. (But I'm perverse and generally shop at the Alberta coop anyhow.)

Correction: New Seasons.

I live right by the Whole Foods, so that's handy, but New Seasons is so much nicer. If it weren't for that damn ridge, I'd go there regularly.
