I have nothing particularly coherent in mind for 3W4DW, but I do have these pix of a neat cargo bike I saw out and about a few days ago. Should you have other interesting cycling stuff to share, please do feel free to do so over the next three weeks.
Oh, I am so tempted to make my next bike a cargo. It's a big investment, and it would make so much sense to share that sort of thing with one or two other bike-only households, or have one that could be rented.
That must be a HELL of a kickstand, or else a really, really well-balanced load!
I have a bike trailer (a large Carry Freedom) that is shared between 4 of us (originally 3 households, now 2 as one of us has moved in with two of the others :) ). It is AWESOME & a seriously worthwhile investment! This weekend I took a bunch of stuff to the tip on it; it has also been used to take big-tent-plus-camping-stuff to a festival, to tow a reclaimed bike frame home, to get 70 litres of compost to the allotment, and on numerous occasions for bringing cases of beer home :)
Having said that: I'd quite like a cargo bike with a built-in box on it. The one downside of the trailer is having to put it together (it packs flat which is great for current minimal-storage-space house, & takes only a minute to put together) & strap stuff onto it safely. We're moving house soon & will have a GARAGE for the 5 bikes + trailer, so at that point I might start leaving it set up (it's only a minute to set it up, but I tend to see that as OMG A WHOLE MINUTE :) ) & with a box strapped onto it, for ease of taking e.g. compost down the allotment.
The garage will certainly make a huge difference! I don't have one, though I do have a pretty well-hidden back yard and the ability to lock one bike up there, and making it accessible (which involved re-fitting the back entrance of the house) has made an enormous difference. My Dutch bike can't go up stairs--I'm not strong enough to get it up even four porch steps except in a crisis--so the ability to store it securely, walk out the door to where it lives, and ride it right out of the storage location into the street is a huge deal.
That Carry Freedom line looks brilliant, and the City model is a work of genius! I'd love to have something like that.
