I am very excited to see the comm growing and people who're not me posting (hooray!) However, this has made me think that perhaps it's time to revisit our profile statement about community purpose and goals, which has been three very short sentences long for the last few months.
The following is my current re-draft of the statement; if you have thoughts, please holler.

This is a comm for cycling-related discussions -- rides, routes, advocacy, squee, equipment, technology, whatever. Although the name is "bicycles," we welcome conversation about any kind of human-powered wheeled-and-geared transport.
Your friendly moderator reserves the right to moderate in my basically-reasonable way. YFM is not necessarily watching all threads at all times, so please PM if there's a situation happening which you think would be improved by my intervention.
Please feel free to make an introductory post telling us about yourself, your bike(s), and where and how you use them! And tagging your posts is a good thing to do.

Date: 2010-03-15 03:00 pm (UTC)Although having just watched an e-mail list I'm on go to Wanklandia over (1) should children be allowed up on road bikes (oh, I stayed out of that one, particularly on a list where a good percentage of the readership own tandems so we can bike with our kids) and (2) the problem with women as cycle tourists is that they haul too much equipment with them because they think they need to be pretty, har har har, all women everywhere (I also stayed out of that one, while thinking bemusedly about how I made C. unload half of what he packed for our trip to Utah), I am v. well-aware that people can get wanky where you'd least expect it.
